Temporary Signal to Be Activated Monday, April 24th

(April 13, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (SHA) is improving the MD 560 (Gorman Road) Bridge over Nydegger Run in Garrett County.  Weather permitting, work will begin on April 17 and be complete late-summer.

Crews will remove and replace concrete on the abutments and walls and install new traffic barriers.  Concrete General, Inc. of Bethesda will make the repairs as part of the $500,000 rehabilitation project.

Crews will install a temporary traffic signal to alternate northbound and southbound Gorman Road traffic across the bridge.  Approximately 2,000 vehicles use this portion of MD 560 each day so motorists should plan for additional travel time during construction.

Originally constructed in the 1930’s, the bridge is safe for the traveling public, but is in need of rehabilitation to preserve its service life.  The project will save money on future maintenance and support safety and mobility as part of SHA’s bridge system preservation program.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver should actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.

Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates, including construction delays and lane closures. Those who have questions about SHA projects in Garrett County may call the SHA District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or send email to shadistrict6@sha.state.md.us.
