RAILROAD REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR SEVERAL LOCATIONS IN WASHINGTON COUNTY

Drivers Should Plan for Additional Travel Time; Follow Signed Detours

(April 13, 2017) – The Norfolk Southern Railroad Corporation is beginning repairs on several railroad crossings in Washington County that will require temporary closures and detours.  A total of six railroad crossings will be repaired across the county, two of which cross state-maintained roads.  Weather permitting, Norfolk Southern Railroad should have the crossing repair project complete by late-spring.

Norfolk Southern Railroad’s contractor Road Safe Traffic Systems, Inc. will close each location twice, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The list of locations and date of closures are as follows:

• Rench Road east of St. James Run - First closure is April 13 and the second is April 25.  Motorists will be directed to MD 65 (Sharpsburg Pike) to MD 68 (Lappans Rd) and MD 632.
 
• College Road near St. James School - First closure is April 18 and the second is April 25.  Motorists will be directed to MD 65 (Sharpsburg Pike) to MD 68 (Lappans Road) and back to College Road.  Motorists traveling in the opposite directions will use these same roads.
 
• MD 68 (Lappans Road) near Shawley’s Lane - First closure is April 19 and the second is April 26. Motorists will be directed to MD 65 north to I-70 west to MD 632 south.
 
• Jordan Road near St. James Run - First closure is April 20 and the second is April 27.  Motorists will be directed to Reichard Road to MD 68 and back to Jordan Road.   Motorists traveling in the opposite directions will use these same roads.
 
• MD 63 (Spielman Road) east of Prophet Acres Road - First closure is April 20 and the second is April 27. Motorists will proceed to MD 65 north to MD 68 west to MD 632 south.
 
• Tommy Town Road near Houser Road – First closure is April 24 and the second is May 1.  Motorists will be directed Bakersville Road to Sprecher Road to Houser Road and back to Tommytown Road.  Motorists traveling in the opposite directions will use these same roads.
 
• Taylors Landing Road north of the Potomac River - First closure is April 24 and the second is May 1.  Motorists will be directed to MD 65 to Mondale Road to Remsburg Road and back to Taylors Landing Road.  Motorists traveling in the opposite directions will use these same roads.
 
• Mondell Road east of the Potomac River –  First closure is April 25 and the second is May 2.  Motorists will be directed to MD 65 and back to Mondale Road.
