Motorists Should Expect Single Lane Closures, Slow Down and Stay Alert

(April 21, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin painting eight bridges throughout Howard County in early May.  The project will be complete spring 2018, weather permitting.

Motorists traveling under these bridges may encounter shoulder closures and temporary lane closures during off-peak hours while crews install work platforms, but the majority of the work will not impact traffic.

The $2.3 million project includes cleaning and repainting steel beams and other metal sections of each bridge.  This work is part of SHA’s bridge system preservation program and will help extend the service life of the bridges.

Alpha Painting and Construction Co., Inc. of Baltimore will clean and paint the following bridges:
  • Eastbound MD 108 Bridge over the Little Patuxent River;
  • Westbound MD 108 Bridge over Little Patuxent River;
  • Northbound I-95 Bridge over Middle Patuxent River;
  • Southbound I -95 Bridge over Middle Patuxent River;
  • Eastbound MD 216 (Scaggsville Road) Bridge over I-95;
  • Westbound MD 216 Bridge over I-95;
  • Eastbound MD 32 Bridge over Guilford Road; and
  • Westbound MD 32 Bridge over Guilford Road.
Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates, including construction delays and lane closures.
