All Work Zone Detours Lifted

(June 13, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will reopen the MD 195 (Carroll Avenue) Bridge over Sligo Creek/Sligo Creek Parkway in Takoma Park Wednesday, one month ahead of schedule.  All work zone detours will be lifted and motorists may resume normal travel across the bridge.

During the bridge closure, crews removed and replaced the bridge superstructure including the deck (driving surface), beams, columns and walls. Crews also installed new drainage pipes on the bridge, constructed new sidewalk and sidewalk ramps, resurfaced approaches to the bridge, power washed the bridge and applied stain to all new bridge concrete to preserve and match the pre-rehabilitation appearance.

To finish other work on the project, crews are permitted to close a single lane in both directions of MD 195 in the bridge work zone, weekdays, between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Permissible work hours with no lane closures are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through late summer.  Remaining work for the project includes slope restoration, tree planting, concrete finishing work at the bottom of existing bridge piers, and soil stabilization.
