Motorists Should Expect Single Lane Closures for Approximately Two Weeks

(May 3, 2018) – Beginning Monday, May 7, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will repair a box culvert carrying MD 363 (Deal Island Road) over a branch of Goose Creek at Venton Road in Princess Anne. MDOT SHA will line the culvert with a new pipe, fill around the pipe and restore the slopes at each end. The project will be complete in two weeks.

While the concrete box culvert is structurally sound the metal pipe extensions have deteriorated, contributing to scouring/erosion of the MD 363 shoulder. MDOT SHA must address this now to prevent significant roadway damage.

Approximately 3,900 vehicles use this section of Deal Island Road each day, so motorists should provide extra travel time during the project.  MDOT SHA will directed through the work via single lane closures and flagging. Farm equipment operators and other wide load drivers should ensure there is sufficient lane width for passage before traveling toward the work area.

While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
