Total Closure and Detour Necessary for Disabled Wide Load on Right Shoulder

(August 3, 2018) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is alerting motorists that a transport crew will recover a disabled large-sized payload that is currently disabled on the right shoulder on the inner loop of I-695 at MD 542 (Loch Raven Boulevard). This will require a total inner loop I-695 closure beginning at approximately 10 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Sunday, August 5.

Traffic will be detoured from the inner loop I-695 onto Loch Raven Boulevard to a left turn on Joppa Road and a right turn onto southbound MD 41 (Perring Parkway) and back to the inner loop I-695.

The right transition lane from northbound Loch Raven Boulevard to the inner loop of I-695 is currently closed. There are stop signs deployed at the top of the ramp, but MDOT SHA recommends that motorists continue to Cromwell Bridge Road and use that interchange to access the inner loop of I-695.

Recovery plans are contingent on weather and other factors and are subject to change.  Motorists are encouraged to avoid travel on the inner loop of I-695 at Loch Raven Boulevard Saturday night and Sunday morning until lanes open. For the latest real-time traffic information, motorists are encouraged to log onto www.md511.org.
