Emergency Roadwork to Continue Through the Weekend at the Baltimore/Howard County Line; Motorists Urged to Use US 40 as Alternate Route

(August 10, 2018) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) continues to close two right lanes on the westbound I-70 Bridge over the Patapsco River at the Baltimore/Howard County line. Only the left lane gets by. Crews are performing emergency bridge repairs and the lane closure could remain through the weekend.

MDOT SHA is retiming traffic signals on westbound US 40 (Baltimore National Pike) through Catonsville to provide longer through traffic for motorists. Approximately 105,000 vehicles use this section of I-70 each day.

Drivers should consider westbound US 40 to northbound US 29 (Columbia Pike) and back to westbound I-70. Westbound MD 26 (Liberty Road) to MD 32 and back to westbound I-70 is also a viable alternate route. For real-time travel conditions, log onto www.md511.org.
