Total Closures Required for Installation of Steel Beams on Bridge as Part of Rehabilitation Project in Frederick County

(October 11, 2018) – Beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, October 13 and continuing until 5 a.m. on Monday, October 15, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will close the MD 28 (Dickerson Road) Bridge over the Monocacy River Bridge in Frederick County. The total closure and detour are necessary as part of the $7.5 million bridge rehabilitation project.

On Monday night, October 15 and continuing until Friday, October 19, MDOT SHA will detour nighttime travelers using MD 109 (Old Hundred Road), MD 355 (Urbana Pike), MD 80 (Fingerboard Road) and MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike). The nighttime closures will begin at 10 p.m. and end by 5 a.m. each day.  Motorists are encouraged to add additional commuting time if traveling during the closure.

Approximately 9,300 vehicles use this section of MD 28 each day. For more information on the MD 28 Bridge rehabilitation project, click here.

While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
