Work Closes Ramp from Northbound I-270 to Westbound I-70; Major Nighttime Delays Expected; Motorists Urged to Use Alternate Routes During Repairs

(September 27, 2019) – On Sunday night, September 29, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will perform emergency road work on the I-70 bridge over I-270 in Frederick County. The repair will take up to two nights to complete.

To safely perform the repair, crews will close the left lane on westbound I-70, as well as the dual exit ramp from northbound I-270 to westbound I-70. Crews will work from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.  the next morning. MDOT SHA’s contractor, PDI Sheetz, Inc. of Linthicum, will use barrels and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone.

Although traffic volumes drop significantly at night, there will be significant delays during this emergency repair. Motorists are encouraged to use MD 355 (Urbana Pike), MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike) or US 15/US 340 as alternate routes.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for motorists, as well as our crews. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
