Drivers Can Expect Daytime and Nighttime Single-Lane Closures

(February 26, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is beginning a routine bridge deck repair project on the outer loop of I-495 (Capital Beltway) bridge over MD 185 (Connecticut Avenue) in Chevy Chase starting March 2. The project should be completed by March 16, weather permitting. Crews will install planking underneath the bridge on MD 185 in advance of the project.

On March 2, there will be a double right-lane closure on MD 185 all week from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Beginning on Sunday, March 8, crews will begin the bridge decks repairs, and this will necessitate a triple-lane closure on the outer loop of I-495 Sunday through Friday morning until March 16 when the repairs are complete. Crews will close all three left lanes at 9 p.m. Drivers should add extra commuting time during the project.

Important note: Incliment weather is forcing completion to be delayed by several weeks.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Concrete General, Inc. of Gaithersburg, will use cones and barrels to safely guide motorists through the work zone.

The State Highway Administration appreciates customers’ patience during construction as we work to improve Maryland’s transportation system. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused and be aware of reduced speed limits and changing driving patterns in the work zone.  Slow Down and move over in work zones. It’s the law.
