(July 6, 2011) – This weekend, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will close one lane on the MD 75 (Green Valley Road) Bridge over Bennett Creek in Frederick to replace the aging and deteriorated parapet walls.  Work is scheduled for two weekends and will be completed by Monday, July 17 at 5 a.m., weather permitting.

SHA will close one lane on the two-lane bridge to safely make the repairs over two weekends beginning Friday, July 8 and the following weekend of July 15.  In the event of bad weather, crews will work with the same hours the weekends of July 22 and 29.  SHA crews will direct traffic using flaggers starting Friday night July 8 at 9 p.m. until Monday, July 11 at 5 a.m.

SHA recommends using MD 27 (Ridge Road) or MD 355 (Urbana Pike) as alternate routes to avoid construction-related delays.  Nearly 8,000 motorists use the bridge, which was built in 1974.

A&M Concrete, Inc. of Chantilly, Va. is SHA’s contractor for the $169,000 project.  Citizens who have questions about traffic operations on MD 75 or other State numbered routes in Frederick County, may call SHA’s District 7 Office at 301-624-8100 or toll free at 1-800-635-5119.

Construction season is here with numerous active work zone sites that include major construction projects taking months to complete and mobile operations taking only minutes.  While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
