(July 7, 2011) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will close Ridgely Road at MD 404 (Shore Highway) beginning Monday, July 11 at 9 a.m. for approximately one week, weather permitting.  This closure is necessary for SHA to safely grade and pave the new eastbound lanes of MD 404 at the Ridgely Road intersection.

Access to Ridgely Road south of MD 404 will be blocked at the intersection.  Ridgely Road north of MD 404 will be unaffected by the work, which should be complete by Friday, July 15.

During this construction, access to homes along Ridgely Road and businesses at the MD 404 / Ridgely Road intersection will be available by using MD 404 Alternate (Main Street/Hillsboro Road).

This work is part of the widening of 1.1 miles of MD 404 from Tuckahoe Creek to MD 480.  David A. Bramble, Inc. of Chestertown is the contractor for the $7 million construction project, estimated to be complete summer 2012.

SHA reminds motorists to plan ahead and check travel conditions including live traffic cameras and lane closure updates at www.chart.maryland.gov.  Construction season is here with numerous active work zone sites that include major construction projects taking months to complete and mobile operations taking only minutes.  While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
