Motorists will be Detoured to MD 109 and MD 85 During One-Night Operation

(August 24, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will enhance safety for motorists by upgrading the guardrail this week on southbound I-270 at the MD 80 (Fingerboard Road) interchange at Exit 26 in Urbana, Frederick County. The work will take place overnight Thursday, August 25.

Starting at 8 p.m. Thursday, MDOT SHA crews will close the exit ramp on southbound I-270 to MD 80 and the exit ramp on MD 80 to southbound I-270. MDOT SHA expects the one-night operation to remove old and damaged guardrail and install new guardrail to be complete by 4 a.m. Friday morning.

Crews will use electronic signs, road signs, cones, and barrels to alert motorists about the work zone and guide them through the detour. The detour routes are:

  • Southbound I-270: Motorists will take Exit 22 to MD 109 (Old Hundred Road) and onto northbound I-270 to access MD 80.
  • MD 80: Motorists will be detoured to northbound I-270 and will take Exit 31 to MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike) to access southbound I-270.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
