Motorists Should Allow More Travel Time to Get Through Flagging Operation

(August 24, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project next week to improve the driving surface and enhance safety on MD 88 (Lower Beckleysville Road/Black Rock Road) in Carroll County between MD 30 Business (Main Street) and the Baltimore County line.

Starting at 8 a.m. Monday, August 29, crews will work to remove the top layer of the roadway, repair depressions to smooth out the road surface and add a new layer of asphalt across more than one mile of roadway. Flaggers will direct traffic through the MD 88 work zone.

Crews will work Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The project is expected to take four to six weeks to complete, weather permitting.

MDOT SHA contractor C.J. Miller LLC, of Hampstead, will use signs, cones, barrels and a truck mounted attenuator to alert motorists about the flagging operation, guide them through the work zone and protect workers.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers.  Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes.  Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
