Motorists Can Expect Single Lane Closures on I-695 Inner and Outer Loops

(December 9, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will prepare to clean and paint the I-695 (Baltimore Beltway/Patapsco Freeway) bridges over Morse Lane and Norfolk Southern Railroad in the Edgemere community of eastern Baltimore County tomorrow, December 10. Weather permitting, the $1.3 million project should be complete late-spring 2023.

Tomorrow, crews will work from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. During these times, motorists can expect single-lane closures on I-695 Inner and Outer Loops. The work involves the installation of temporary decking, shields and traffic barriers within the bridge work zone for crews that will handle the bridge cleaning and painting this winter and spring.

Beginning Monday, December 12, MDOT SHA’s contractor Reglas Painting Co., Inc. of Baltimore, will continue the work zone set up with daytime single lane closures on I-695 Inner and Outer Loops between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. weekdays through January.  Morse Lane will remain open with temporary traffic barriers along the roadway shoulders. The lane closures will be suspended on Monday, December 26, and Monday, January 2, 2023, for Christmas and New Year’s. Once the work zone set-up is in place, crews will clean and paint the bridges behind barriers.

Customers who have questions about this project may contact the MDOT SHA District 4 Office Construction Division at 410-229-2300 or toll-free at 1-866-998-0367.

Maryland’s Move Over Law requires motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency.
