Southbound Lanes Closed Tuesday December 13, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Kent/Queen Anne’s Line Near Millington

(December 9, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is temporarily closing southbound US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) over the Chester River from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 13. The closure is necessary for crews to pave the median crossovers to prepare for closure of the northbound US 301 bridge for the bridge replacement project. Traffic will be shifted on Wednesday, December 14 entirely to the southbound US 301 bridge where drivers will have one lane in each direction.

During the closure, detour signs are being posted directing southbound US 301 motorists to exit at MD 291 west to MD 290 south to MD 544 east and back to US 301 south. The detour length is about eight miles. This work will not impact northbound US 301 traffic.

Weather permitting, on Wednesday, December 14, MDOT SHA will shift traffic to allow one lane in each direction for northbound and southbound travel on the southbound side of US 301. This traffic pattern will enable the closure of northbound US 301 and help to expedite the northbound US 301 bridge replacement project over the Chester River, which is scheduled to be complete in late 2023.

Additional information about the northbound US 301 Bridge over the Chester River replacement project is available here.

Maryland’s Move Over Law requires motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
