Drivers Can Expect Single-Lane Closures, Occasional Ramp Closures and Detours

(June 23, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project Sunday evening to improve nearly four miles of US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway) between Basford Road and US 340 near Jefferson. The work will be performed overnight, from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and should be complete by early August, weather permitting.

The project includes milling, paving and restriping the main lanes and shoulders on US 15 and the ramps at the US 340 interchange. During work hours, drivers should expect single-lane closures guided by a flagging operation. During the ramp work at the US 15/US 340 interchange, crews will close the ramp and drivers will be detoured using the US 340/Lander Road interchange and Mountville Road.

Contractor Francis O. Day Inc., of Rockville, will use barrels, cones, flaggers and arrow boards to safely guide motorists through the work zone. Motorcyclists should use extra caution for uneven pavement during the resurfacing project. This section of US 15 was last resurfaced in 2009. The State Highway Administration understands road work can be an inconvenience but is necessary to maintain the transportation system for all.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
