Expect a Single Right-Lane Closure in Each Direction Beginning Monday, September 15

(September 11, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin making shoulder improvements on I-70 at the Saint Paul Road bridges beginning Monday, September 15. The project is part of I-70 bridges over Saint Paul Road.

Work will begin on the eastbound I-70 bridge. Drivers can expect a right shoulder and lane closure beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, September 15 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 16. Once the eastbound I-70 at Saint Paul Road shoulder work is complete, crews will shift to the westbound bridge using the same lane and shoulder closures.

The work involves paving the shoulders to make them load-bearing. As part of the overall bridge replacement project, both lanes will be maintained during construction by switching traffic to the new load bearing shoulders. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2027, weather permitting.

The plan is to maintain two lanes of traffic open in each direction except for occasional intermittent single lane closures that will be done at night during non-peak hours. The work is part of the I-70 Bridge Replacement Project over Saint Paul Road, weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed 2027.

The state’s contractor, Triton Construction, Inc., will use electronic sign boards, cones and construction barrels to guide motorists through the work zone.  Motorists should allow additional time for their commute during this shoulder work.
