Drivers Can Expect Flagging Operations While Work is Underway

(May 12, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will be improving pavement condition along several state-maintained highways in Anne Arundel, Calvert and Charles counties this month. Work is expected to be complete by late June 2026, schedule and weather permitting.

Pre-construction activities are underway as crews prepare to perform crack sealing and micro-surfacing at the following locations:

  • MD 224 (Chickamuxen Road) between Creeds Mill Road and MD 225 (Hawthorne Road) in Charles County
  • MD 402 (Dares Beach Road) between Wilson Road and MD 768 (Dares Wharf Road) in Calvert County
  • MD 178 (Generals Highway) between Housley Road / Bestgate Road and Mansion Woods Road in Anne Arundel County

Crews will micro-surface pavements to preserve and improve pavement friction and driver safety on these State highways. Contractor Slurry Pavers, Inc. of Richmond Virginia will use temporary traffic signs, flaggers, cones and barrels to guide drivers through each work zone.

Work hours are scheduled during off-peak travel times and are subject to change. Customers who have questions may contact the District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or [email protected].

The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
