Crews will Remove Concrete Barriers During Daytime Operation as Bridge Repairs Near Completion
(May 14, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will remove the concrete barriers along the southbound MD 27 (Ridge Road) ramp and merge lane onto eastbound I-70 during a daytime operation tomorrow, Friday, May 15. Once the barriers are removed, the ramp will reopen to traffic for the first time since October 2025 when a truck traveling north on MD 27 hit the eastbound I-70 bridge damaging two beams.
Crews will close the right lane on eastbound I-70 at MD 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The repairs to the damaged bridge beams began in February. The concrete barrier along northbound MD 27 will remain in place until the project is completed next month.
The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
