(Harrisburg, Pa. - March 5, 2014) – Motorists are advised that northbound Interstate 81 will be restricted to a single lane on Thursday, March 6, starting at 9 a.m. and continuing no longer than 3 p.m. that day. The left lane of northbound I-81 will be closed for a  short distance at approximately one mile north of the Maryland state line and just south of the Hykes Road overpass in Antrim Township, Franklin County. Approximately 22,500 vehicles travel daily on this portion of northbound I-81. Trucks account for 24 percent of this northbound traffic.

The single-lane traffic restriction is necessary so that clean-up crews for Environmental Products and Services of Vermont can finish clean-up from a diesel fuel leak that occurred about a month ago when a tractor-trailer overturned and caught fire in the median area. Motorists are asked to be alert to this operation and to slow down when approaching and traveling through the work zone. The clean-up operation should wrap up and restore northbound I-81 to two lanes of traffic by 3 p.m., if not sooner.
