Crews to Conduct Concrete Work March 25-28 and April 1-4; Detour Will Guide Motorists to Timonium Road to Access Southbound I-83

(March 21, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will temporarily close the interchange ramp from westbound Padonia Road to southbound Interstate-83 (Baltimore-Harrisburg Expressway) in the Timonium area of Baltimore County over the next two weekends – late Friday night through early Monday morning – to allow crews to complete concrete work on the ramp.

Beginning 10 p.m. Friday, March 25, MDOT SHA and the contractor crews will close the ramp from westbound Padonia Road to southbound I-83. The ramp will remain closed through the weekend until 5 a.m. Monday, March 28. During this time, motorists will use a posted ramp detour route via Deereco Road, Greenspring Drive and Timonium Road to the Timonium Road interchange to southbound I-83.

Weather permitting, the ramp will be closed again for concrete work 10 p.m. Friday night, April 1 through 5 a.m. Monday, April 4. In case of inclement weather, the work and detour will take place on the next possible weekend.

Contractor Milani Construction Inc., of Washington, D.C., will perform the concrete work on the ramps on both weekends. The work is part of MDOT SHA’s $22 million project to replace the I-83 bridges over Padonia Road, improve traffic operations at the interchange and extend the culvert carrying Beaver Run under the interchange. The project is expected to complete by early summer. Learn more about the project here.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
