Westbound Ramp Closed; Damaged from Slope Failure Along Shoulder

(February 4, 2022) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has closed the westbound ramp on MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) to northbound MD 980D (Ritchie Marlboro Road) in Prince George’s County to make emergency repairs on the ramp caused by a slope failure along the right shoulder.

To perform the emergency repairs, MDOT SHA crews will install barrier walls today at this location. The ramp will be closed to traffic until repairs are complete.

Electronic signs are posted to alert motorists about the emergency ramp closure and MDOT SHA’s Upper Marlboro Shop has implemented the following detour:

  1. Westbound MD 4 traffic can exit onto northbound MD 223 (Woodyard Road).
  2. Turn right onto eastbound Old Marlboro Pike, then continue to MD 980D (Ritchie Marlboro Road).

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.

Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile device for Maryland State Police and roadside assistance.
