SHA Ride Specification

The following instructions from the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) Office of Materials Technology (OMT) will assist contractors and consultants to conform to the required Ride Specification (Section 535 - Pavement Surface Profile; for information see here).

If there is a conflict between the information on this page and the contract documents on a project, follow the information in the contract documents. For questions, please contact one of the OMT staffers below.

Pay Limits and Pay Adjustment Calculations

The pay adjustments will be calculated as per Section 535 – Pavement Surface Profile and MSMT 736 (PDF, 100 KB)

For contracts advertised on or before June 15, 2016, the IRI pay targets will be established in accordance with the Ride Specification Limits Form 10-01-2013 (ZIP, 400 KB)

For contracts advertised between June 15, 2016 and April 1, 2019, the IRI pay targets will be established in accordance with the Ride Specification Limits Form 06-15-2016 (ZIP, 1.7 MB)

For contracts advertised on or after April 1, 2019, the IRI pay targets will be established in accordance with the Ride Specification Limits Form 04-01-2019 (ZIP, 2.3 MB)

Standardization Test Site Location

The following test site, 0.2 miles in length, is signed for use as a Standardization Test Site

Talbot County
MD 662 (Centreville Road) between Airport Road and Forest Street off of US 50 near the Easton Airport. Test section signs are posted in the northbound direction.

Submit Quality Control Data to OMT

Follow these guidelines when submitting quality control data required under Special Provisions Section 535 - Pavement Surface Profile and MSMT 563 (PDF, 200 KB)

Send electronic data files for IRI data to ridespec@mdot.maryland.gov

Add the SHA contract number to the subject line of the e-mail message. Include all of the reporting information required under MSMT 563 (PDF, 200 KB). Attach electronic data files in a DOS Text or ASCII file type.
