(June 13, 2011) – Starting today, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is repairing sections of pavement on US 40 (Baltimore National Pike) between the Baltimore City Line and east of Ingleside Avenue in the Westview area of Baltimore County.  Weather permitting, the $382,000 project will be complete mid-summer 2011.

Single lane closures and traffic shifts, flagging operations may occur along sections of US 40 at any time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.  SHA advises motorists to plan ahead for extra travel time along US 40 in the Westview area on weekdays, look ahead for flagging operations, and use caution while entering and exiting driveways and side streets.

The US 40 highway project is made possible through Governor Martin O’Malley’s aggressive management of the requirements of the landmark American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).  This project, along with other ARRA projects, is stimulating Maryland’s economy by preserving thousands of jobs.  The State’s contractor is Gray and Son, Inc. of Timonium.

Citizens who have questions about maintenance operations on State highways within Baltimore County may contact SHA’s District 4 Office – Maintenance Division in Hunt Valley at 410-229-2360, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367 or by email at shadistrict4@sha.state.md.us.  Motorists are also reminded that work is underway for US 40 bridge rehabilitation project at the Baltimore/Howard County line. To learn more, follow MD SHA US 40 Patapsco Bridge on Facebook or www.roads.maryland.gov

Construction season is here with numerous active work zone sites that include major construction projects taking months to complete and mobile operations taking only minutes.  While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don't follow too closely.  Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones.  For everyone.
