(July 1, 2011) – Tomorrow night, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is temporarily closing lanes in each direction along MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) at the MD 168 (Hammonds Ferry Road) Bridge.  Only one lane will be available between 10 p.m. and 10 a.m., Sunday, July 3.  The temporary closure will protect crews as they remove a containment debris shield (a device that catches debris during the bridge replacement project) over MD 295.

The debris shield has been struck at least seven times in the past month by illegal over height trucks.  The 13-foot 6-inch clearance is the legal height of a truck.  SHA has variable message signs on MD 295 and I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) warning motorists of the 13-foot 6-inch clearance.

SHA advises motorists to avoid using the Baltimore-Washington Parkway between 10 p.m. Saturday night through 10 a.m. Sunday, July 3 weather permitting.  Only one lane will be available in each direction - both northbound and southbound.  Alternate north-south routes include I-97, US 1 and Interstate 95.

This work is part of SHA’s project to rehabilitate the Nursery Road (MD 168) and Hammonds Ferry Road bridges over MD 295 in Anne Arundel County.  For more information on this project, log onto www.roads.maryland.gov .  Customers are also invited to follow SHA on Twitter @MDSHA.
