(April 21, 2014)  - The concrete stop pads on the westbound lanes of US 50 (Ocean Gateway) just prior to the intersection with MD 404 (Queen Anne Highway) in Wye Mills will be replaced over the next month. Starting tonight at 8 p.m. the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will implement single-lane closures 24-hours a day Monday through Thursday.

The 24-hour single-lane closures on westbound US 50 will be repeated each week, Monday through Thursday for four weeks, with project completion scheduled by mid-May, weather dependant.   No lane closures will occur Fridays through Sundays.

After replacing the concrete stop pads, work crews will pave both the eastbound and westbound lanes of US 50 with asphalt for one-half mile in each direction. All lane closures will be sensitive to the increased beach traffic on holidays and weekends.  American Infrastructure of Maryland is the contractor for the $1,3 million contract.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Saver Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
