(May 13, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project on Sunday that will enhance safety on the I-70 (Dwight D. Eisenhower Highway) bridge over US 15. Starting at 9 p.m., crews will install braces to the planks underneath the I-70 westbound bridge over the ramp to southbound US 15.

Crews will continue to work 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings until the project’s expected completion in two weeks. While the work is taking place, crews will close the right lane of westbound I-70 and Exit 52, the southbound US 15/westbound 340 ramp.

Motorists on westbound I-70 traveling to southbound US 15 will be directed to continue on westbound I-70 and take Exit 49 for US 40 Alternate (Old National Pike). Motorists will then turn left at the traffic signal onto westbound US 40 Alternate and make another left turn onto eastbound I-70 to proceed to Exit 52.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers.  Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes.  Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
