(March 10, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will close multiple lanes overnight next week on the southbound I-95 bridge over the Patapsco River and CSX rail line at the border of Baltimore and Howard counties so that crews can safely repair damaged joints. The work will be conducted 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Friday, March 12-17.

Starting at 10 p.m. each night, crews will close two lanes on the southbound I-95 bridge in the Elkridge area, with a third lane closing at midnight, leaving one lane open to traffic. Motorists traveling during the nighttime work hours should consider using US 1 (Washington Boulevard), US 29 (Columbia Pike) or MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) as alternate routes.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor will use electronic signs, reflective barrels and cones to guide motorists through the work zone. The work is a continuation of a repair project that began earlier this year on the northbound I-95 bridge.

The State Highway Administration understands the I-95 bridge lane closures will inconvenience some travelers, and asks all motorists to please stay alert and be patient as they pass through the work zone.
