Work Includes Upgrading Sidewalks to ADA Standards; Some Daytime Single-Lane Closures Expected During Construction

(January 21, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is continuing a project to improve pedestrian access along segments of MD 26 (Liberty Road) in Baltimore County, and the work is requiring some daytime lane closures. The $431,000 project, taking place along MD 26 from Deer Park Road to Pikeswood Road, includes reconstruction of sections of concrete sidewalks, sidewalk ramps, curbs, gutters and driveway aprons where necessary to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Work is happening now and will continue through late spring 2022, weather permitting.

Motorists should expect temporary single-lane closures along MD 26 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. During concrete construction work, sections of sidewalks will be temporarily closed to pedestrians. Signs will be posted alerting pedestrians of the detours.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, Image Asphalt Maintenance of Pasadena, will use electronic signs, cones and barrels to alert motorists and pedestrians of the work zone.

Meanwhile, construction is also continuing along another segment of MD 26 between Brenbrook Drive and North Rolling Road. Work on this segment began early fall 2021 and is scheduled to be complete spring 2022.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.

Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
