Motorists Can Expect Flagging Operation, Shoulder Closures Through June

(May 18, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin to paint and clean the MD 36 (New Georges Creek Road) bridge over Georges Creek in Allegany County on Friday, May 20. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be complete by the end of June.

The work is part of an areawide bridge cleaning and painting project in Allegany County. Starting Friday, crews will work 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week on the structure. These improvements are expected to extend the life of the bridge, located on MD 36 between MD 937 (Creek Side Drive) and Shady Lane, SW.

While work is taking place, motorists can expect a shoulder closure and flagging to provide alternating one-way travel on this two-lane roadway. MDOT SHA contractor Elite Industrial Painting is performing the work.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.

Editor’s Note

From intersection improvements to widening and new interchange construction, MDOT SHA is investing in projects to enhance the commute and daily travel for millions of Marylanders.  MDOT SHA maintains more than 2,500 bridges and 17,000 miles of non-toll state roads – the interstate, US and state numbered routes in Maryland’s 23 counties.
