Motorists Can Expect Overnight Single-Lane Closures

(Sept. 22, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) will complete a project over three nights next week to restripe lines and improve lane visibility on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge (I-95/I-495/Capital Beltway) in Oxon Hill.

Crews will work overnights, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., from evening of Tuesday, September 27, to the morning of Friday, September 30, to remove and replace existing pavement striping. To allow crews to safely complete the work, crews will close, on an alternating basis, left and right lanes on I-95/I-495 on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

MDOT SHA contractor Roy Jorgensen Associates, of Buckeystown, will use digital message boards, temporary traffic signs and cones to guide motorists safely through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to leave extra travel time during the work hours.

Beginning October 1, 2022, the Move Over Law in Maryland will require motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing, or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
