(September 30, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is continuing work to prepare for an upcoming project to rehabilitate 10 bridge at the I-95/I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) interchange in the Arbutus area of Baltimore County, and will need to implement overnight lane closures next week and a ramp closure for one night, Monday, October 10, for milling and paving work. All work is weather permitting.

As part of preparations, overnight lane and ramp closures are scheduled as follows:
Southbound I-95 at I-695: Each night, Sunday night, October 2 through Friday morning, October 7, there will be a single right-lane closure beginning at 7 p.m., then a double right-lane closure at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day

Outer loop of I-695 (southbound) ramp to exit 11A – northbound I-95: This ramp will be closed overnight for one night only – between 8 p.m. Monday, October 10 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, October 11.
DETOUR: During the overnight closure, a detour will be in place. Motorists needing to access northbound I-95 from the Outer Loop will be directed south of I-95 to exit 9 at Hollins Ferry Road. From there, they will be directed to turn right onto Hollins Ferry Road, then left at next signal onto the inner loop of I-695 (northbound). From there, motorists will proceed on the inner loop of I-695 past exit 10 - US 1 Alt. (Washington Boulevard) and onto northbound I-95.

During lane and ramp closures, motorists are encouraged to plan for extra travel time and consider alternate routes. Crews will use digital message boards, temporary signs and barrels to direct drivers safely through the nighttime work zone. MDOT SHA contractor Wagman Heavy Civil Inc., of York, Pa., will perform the work.

The larger project will install new riding surfaces on bridges within the I-95 / I-695 interchange, and also will  replace concrete traffic barriers and parapets on the bridges. For additional information about the project, click here. Customers who have questions about this work on I-95 and other projects on state-maintained roads in Baltimore County may call the MDOT SHA District 4 Office – Construction Division at 410-229-2300 or toll-free at 1-866-998-0367.

Beginning October 1, Maryland’s Move Over Law will require motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
