(February 3, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will temporarily close MD 506 (Sixes Road) between Grays Road and Harvest Grove Lane in Calvert County between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, February 6-7, to allow crews to replace an underground pipe safely and efficiently.

During the daytime work, motorists traveling on MD 506 will be detoured to MD 2/4 (Solomons Island Road), MD 231 (Hallowing Point Road), and Adelina Road. (See map.) Portable variable message signs and temporary traffic signs will be in place to guide motorists. All work is weather permitting.

MDOT SHA realizes the temporary lane closure will impact motorists but closing the road will expedite the work and limit further impacts to the motoring public. Customers with questions about this work may contact the MDOT SHA District 5 Office at 1-800-331-5603 or 410-841-1000.

MDOT SHA reminds motorists to check their vehicles this winter to make sure they are ready for the weather. Make sure tires have adequate tread and radiator hoses are free of leaks or defects. Also, make sure you have a full reservoir of coolant. It is also a good idea to keep a survival bag on hand that includes a protein bar, flares or other warning lights, and a blanket.
