Motorists Should Expect Daytime Delays Through Mid-May

(March 17, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a project to clean and paint the MD 313 (Sharptown Road) bridge over the Nanticoke River in Sharptown, Wicomico County, on Monday, March 20. The project is expected to be complete mid-May, weather permitting.

Starting Monday, motorists can expect single-lane closures and a flagging operation from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, while the work is underway. Lane widths will be approximately 13 feet across the structure, so wide load vehicles including some agricultural equipment may not be able to cross the bridge while the work is taking place. Crossings of wide loads will be available before or after the work times.

Cleaning and painting is needed to preserve the steel sections of the bridge and protect them from corrosion, which can lead to extensive repairs and bridge closures if not addressed. The State Highway Administration understands the lane closures will inconvenience some travelers and asks all motorists to please stay alert and be patient as you pass through the work zone.
