Temporary Signal Operation Begins Thursday, January 11; Improvements at Lerch Creek Crossing to Enhance Water Flow and Safety

(January 11, 2024) -The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin construction of a $3.8 million project to replace the structure carrying MD 468 (Muddy Creek Road) over Lerch Creek in Galesville, Anne Arundel County, on January 11. The project is expected to be complete in fall 2024, weather permitting.

The current structure is nearing the end of its service life and needs replacement. South of  MD 255 (Galesville Road), crews will replace the existing multi-pipe structure with a box culvert that will carry Lerch Creek under MD 468. Upgrading to a box culvert enables improved water flow management, reducing the risk of flooding in the area.

Starting Thursday, January 11, and continuing for the duration of the project, single-lane traffic will be maintained using temporary traffic signals. During construction, work may require closures during off-peak nights and weekends, as necessary. Portable variable message signs are posted along MD 468 alerting travelers of the new traffic pattern.

This project is part of the State Highway Administration’s system preservation program, which supports the safety and mobility of Maryland’s travelers and maintains the state’s transportation network.

Contractor Rustler Construction Inc., of Upper Marlboro, will perform the work. Learn more about the project here
