Motorists Should Expect Overnight, Single Lane Closures through June

(April 11, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin improving several sections on MD 586 (Veirs Mill Road) through Rockville and the Wheaton/Silver Spring areas beginning April 14.  The pavement improvement project should be complete by the end of this month, weather permitting.

On Sunday, April 14, crews will begin milling the roadway to prepare for paving. Work will take place weeknights, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. During work hours, motorists can expect lane shifts and single-lane closures.

The locations along MD 586 are as follows:

  • Eastbound 200' West of Ferrara Ave to Newport Mill Road
  • Westbound from 200' West of Ferrara Avenue to MD 193 (University Boulevard)
  • 12732 Veirs Mill Road to Randolph Road
  • MD 28 (First Street) to bridge over Rock Creek

The State Highway Administration understands roadwork can be an inconvenience but is necessary to maintain a safe and reliable highway system. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve our roadways.

The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Allan Myers of Fallston, MD, will use arrow boards, cones, and barrels to safely guide motorists through the work zone. Customers with questions may contact the State Highway Administration District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll-free at 1-800-749-0737.
