Isolated issue found overnight during routine biennial inspection

(April 17, 2024) – The Maryland State Highway Administration will close the two right lanes of the eastbound US 50/US 301 Severn River bridge beginning this afternoon to further inspect an isolated finding found overnight during a routine biennial inspection of the bridge. The closure will allow for the acceleration of any necessary repairs.

Out of an abundance of caution, SHA has restricted vehicles greater than 80,000 pounds across the bridge between MD 70 (Rowe Boulevard) and MD 2 (Ritchie Highway). Additional routine inspections of the bridge will continue overnight tonight. Traffic updates will be provided as the work is completed.

The State Highway Administration appreciates motorists’ patience as we complete this necessary inspection and maintenance work. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve our roadways.
