(April 25, 2014) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is reopening the relocated ramp from the Inner Loop of I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) to MD 144 (Frederick Road) next week, weather permitting.  Beginning Sunday afternoon April 27, crews will activate a new traffic signal system and shift traffic on the Frederick Road Bridge.

Between 7 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday, April 28, construction personnel will control traffic with flagging operations at the interchange. This will allow signal technicians to activate and test the signal system and construction crews to shift traffic on the new Frederick Road Bridge.  SHA advises motorists traveling on Frederick Road between 7 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday to allow extra travel time.

On Monday morning, the new traffic signal system will be in full operation and motorists may use the new use double left turn lanes for the interchange ramps. However, the new ramp from the Inner Loop to Frederick Road will remain closed until Tuesday morning.

Beginning 12 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, SHA will close single lanes on the inner loop of I-695 to prepare for the opening of the relocated ramp to Frederick Road.  The ramp has been moved closer to the bridge to improve safety and traffic operations at the interchange.  Crews will remove temporary barriers and traffic signs, open the new ramp and close the old ramp.  The new ramp will be open to traffic by 5 a.m. Tuesday.      

 

 

 

 

Once the new traffic pattern is in place, construction will continue with pavement resurfacing on I-695 and Frederick Road and landscaping within the interchange area.  Weather permitting; the entire I-695/Frederick Road interchange improvement project will be complete mid-summer.
