(November 10, 2020) –  The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will reopen MD 51 (Industrial Boulevard) bridge Thursday, Nov. 12. The overnight work will restore traffic back to its original pattern over MD 51/MD 61 (Wineow Street) and CSX Transportation lines in Cumberland.

Starting at 6 p.m., crews will begin guiding traffic back into the northbound and southbound lanes of MD 51. Previously, crews were working on the southbound side of MD 51 and all lanes of traffic went through MD 51 northbound. The overnight work is expected to be complete by 7 a.m. Friday. This pattern will be in effect through the spring, which is when work will resume on the northbound side of MD 51.

The work is part of the $10.9 million MD 51 bridge rehabilitation and deck replacement that is expected to be complete by summer 2022. Triton Construction, Inc. of St. Albans, West Virginia will be conducting the work. Learn more about the project HERE.

Portable message signs have been in place to notify motorists of the upcoming work. On Wednesday night, Maryland State Police will be assisting with the traffic switch and a flagging operation will be in place. Barrels, traffic cones and signage will guide motorists through this work zone.
