Motorists Should Expect Intermittent Traffic Stops on Inner & Outer Loops Through Late August

(July 15, 2021) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin overnight lane closures on the I-95/I-495 bridges over Suitland Parkway in Prince George’s County on Monday, July 19. Crews will be setting structural steel for the $34 million bridge replacement project through late August.

Starting Monday, motorists can expect single- and multi-lane closures beginning at 9 p.m. and continuing through 5 a.m. the next day as crews set structural steel beams. The overnight work will continue Sundays through Thursdays until completion, expected in late August. Nightly work will begin on the Inner Loop of I-95/I-495 before progressing to the Outer Loop. Intermittent traffic stops of up to 15 minutes are possible as crews transport, raise and assemble the steel beams.

Crews will also use off-peak single lane closures, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to perform beam tightening work and other project-related activities. Additional work times and lane closures may be needed to expedite the resurfacing work and keep the project on schedule. Learn more about the project HERE.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
