Shift scheduled for Wednesday when Crews will Construct a Median and Improve Drainage

(January 9, 2022) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will shift travel lanes on MD 108 (Clarksville Pike) at Centennial Lane/Beaverbrook Road to the northern side of the roadway on Wednesday, January 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting.

The traffic shift is part of the intersection improvement project on MD 108 in Columbia. All lanes will remain open during the operation, as well as one left-turn lane available in each direction. The traffic shift is necessary to allow crews to safely construct a median on MD 108. They will also install curb on the southern side of the roadway east of Beaverbrook Road to improve drainage.

MDOT SHA’s contractor on the project, Kibler Construction Company, Inc., will use electronic signs, barrels, and cones to alert motorists about the traffic pattern change.

The project will widen and add turn lanes on MD 108 and Centennial Lane to reduce congestion and enhance safety. Work began in summer 2021 and is expected to be complete this spring.

Maryland’s Move Over Law requires motorists to make a lane change or slow down when approaching any stopped, standing, or parked vehicle displaying hazard warning lights, road flares, or other caution signals. The expanded law is in place to protect emergency responders and motorists who encounter a roadside emergency.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
